All around the country backpacks are being zipped, pencils are sharpened, and eager (as well as reluctant) minds are heading back to school.

Whether you’re preparing your kids for this academic year or heading back to the classroom yourself, there are many ways in which you can prep your apartment.

Not only will a homework-friendly space better your study habits, but it will also provide comfort and inspiration—providing the push you need to get your assignments out of the way

Organize Your Entryway

After a long day of classes, it’s hard to fight the urge to plop your backpack on the ground and leave a trail of jackets and shoes on your way to a spot on the couch. Luckily, an entryway redesign can alter bad habits. If they’re not already hung, insert hooks into the wall that are suited for certain items. When you arrive home, you’ll look forward to hanging your backpack in its designated spot. To avoid haphazardly tossing your shoes in a random location, add a bench to your entryway. You’ll feel more inclined to leave your shoes by the door if you can remove them in a seated position.

Treat Yourself to a Snack Station

We’re never too old for school snacks. To get through a long day of academia, it’s important to have sustenance on-hand. To avoid hunger pains in class, set yourself up for success and create a snack area in your pantry and fridge. By creating a designated space, you’ll be accustomed to stocking up prior to class, and less likely to forget your food. It will also be easier to notice when you’re running low on essentials.

Optimize Your Workspace

At home, your workspace should be a happy place. Therefore, it’s important to tie in comforting elements while maintaining some structure. While a spot on the couch may seem appealing, sitting upright at a desk will keep you awake and alert. To throw some warmth into the mix, line your desk with happy photos, candles, and your favorite decor. If you have little ones, we recommend setting up a designated homework spot adjacent to the kitchen or living room. Therefore, you can easily provide help and guidance while cooking, cleaning, or when hanging out.
