4 Resolutions For Apartment Living

It’s that time of year again. As we optimistically craft our New Year’s resolutions, we often look towards fitness, diet, and career goals to satisfy our need for change.

This year, how about switching up your priorities by focusing your “new year, new you” mentality on your apartment? While your health and career are very important, it’s much easier to master pilates or that Monday to-do list when you can spread out in an organized and stylish home.

So, if you’re looking to spruce up your space in 2018, here’s where you can get started:

1. Clean Out Your Junk Drawer

We all have one, and some of us even have a junk closet. The key to managing this pesky space is not to get rid of it, but to minimize what’s inside of it. There will always be small, miscellaneous items that don’t have a home, and that’s okay! Find the items in your space that you can either relocate or throw out, and do so immediately. Throughout the year, we haphazardly throw too many things into this space, and should frequently assess what truly belongs. That broken keychain acquired ten years ago will not make it to 2018.

2. Set Yourself Up For Success

Do you ever find yourself hopping from room to room to grab everything you need to complete a task? If so, assess your routine and organize your apartment to complement your day-to-day. For example, if you practice yoga in your living room, set up a wicker basket filled with mats, blocks, and other essentials just a few feet away from your regular spot. Whether you unwind with knitting, sketching, or reading, keep all the necessary items under a coffee table or in a drawer near your favorite spot to relax. With spacious layouts and plenty of storage space, this adjustment will be seamless in a Lincoln apartment.

3. Address What You’ve Been Avoiding

Has your fridge been haunting you for months? Or, have you grown accustomed to sorting through a massive pile to grab your shoes for the day? If so, now is the time to address these problem areas. The trick is to choose the one spot you would love to avoid cleaning forever and get to it. The next step would be to find the mess that’s second in line and tackle that. As you progress, you’ll find yourself looking forward to your final tasks. Keep in mind, if some areas are just too daunting, feel free to stretch this out over a couple of days.

4. Prepare Your Home For Entertaining

If one of your resolutions is to make more time for friends, then set yourself up for success and party-proof your place! You could start by investing in comfy seating, extra wine glasses, or fun serving bowls. Find interesting board games or interactive activities and keep them stashed under a coffee table for quick access. Also, organize your living room so it’s easy to clean in a flash. Wicker baskets for blankets, shelving, and designated corners make sprucing up a 5-minute task. Gone are the days where plans fall through because of daunting messes.
