Cincinnati, Ohio offers a world of flavor, exciting attractions, and beautiful sites. Whether you’re digging into a bowl of spaghetti topped with chili, taking in the scenery on the waterfront, or greeting the local celebrity hippo, you can only do it within these city limits.

Here are some highlights to add to your Cincinnati bucket list:

EAT

If you’re unfamiliar with Cincinnati’s infamous chili recipe, it’s time to get acquainted. This version places a Mediterranean spin on the classic and is often used as a topping on hot dogs and even spaghetti. Developed by Slavic-Macedonian immigrants in the 1920s, their creation became a beloved favorite at their restaurant. To this day, it’s served with love around the city. Camp Washington Chili Parlor has “been proudly serving chile heads” since the 40s. This particular establishment focuses on 5 elements: spaghetti, onions, cheese, chili, and beans, perfecting each one. After a hearty bowl, satisfy your sweet tooth with an equally unique offering–blue ice cream! The trend of serving blueberry-soft serve started at King’s Island. It remains a specialty at places like Putz’s and Norwood Delite.

SEE

Take a walk on the wild side and devote a day to the Cincinnati Zoo. Known for being the country’s second-oldest zoo, it’s spent years contributing to the preservation of wildlife from all over the globe. From Manatee Springs, Giraffe Ridge, to the Elephant Reserve, its exhibits are unparalleled. It’s also home to Fiona the Hippo, a local celebrity that’s become worthy of her own patented beer and mural in downtown Cincinnati.

If you’re looking to soak in the arts, a visit to the Contemporary Arts Center is quite the treat. Along with highlighting modern pieces in painting, sculpture, installation, and photography, the building itself was designed by Zaha Hadid and is a work of art in itself.

DO

Cincinnati’s riverfront has experienced a bit of development throughout the years and nowadays offers a gorgeous backdrop for the avid walker or jogger. If you’re feeling more sedentary, spread out a blanket at Smale Park, a beautiful green space that offers swings, slides, fountains, a labyrinth, and even a carousel. After an afternoon in the sun, quench your thirst by visiting one of the many amazing breweries the city offers. Not sure where to start? enjoy a pre-planned route on the Cincy Brew Bus.
