Day-to-day life has been a little different as of late. A simple trip to the grocery store poses new challenges, hand washing is now an hourly task, and seemingly innocuous surfaces in the home are less safe than you think.
In these uncertain times, there is a new set of rules, that when used collectively will stop the spread and keep communities happy and healthy. At LPC, it is our main mission to keep our residents safe. Therefore, we’ve provided some tips for navigating your new daily routine.
Disinfecting Your Home
For a squeaky clean space and peace of mind, make it a habit to disinfect frequently-touched areas of the home. These can include your phone, keys, doorknobs, light switches, car doors, fridge handles, and anywhere else you can think of.
Grocery Shopping
At this time, it’s important to only leave your apartment for essential tasks and only if you are feeling well. One of those is making sure you’re stocked with food at your Lincoln home. When a grocery trip is in order, there are many precautions to take to avoid carrying germs back into your apartment. First, assign one person to do the shopping to limit exposure. Before you leave, meal plan and create a checklist of items you may need to make the trip as efficient as possible. If possible, wear a mask and gloves on your visit and do not touch your face. Many grocery stores are offering disinfecting wipes at the entry of stores. Take the time to wipe down your cart and your basket before you head to the aisles. When perusing for food, be sure to maintain six feet from others and only touch items you plan on purchasing. Throughout the visit, make sure you are sanitizing your hands as frequently as possible.
Returning Home
The first thing you should do when you return home is to wash your hands! To rid yourself of pesky germs make sure you are scrubbing for at least 20 seconds. Hum the chorus of your favorite song as you wash the front and back of your hands, forearms, and fingers. By the end, you’ll be ready to dry with a paper towel. Then, disinfect packaged items and wash your produce and feel free to take more hand washing breaks. As a final measure, change out of your clothes and throw them along with a reusable mask into a washing machine.
Walking Your Dog
When your four-legged friend has to go, it’s important to maintain social distancing. Be sure to keep six feet away from others and wear a mask if you have one. When you return home, wash your hands immediately.
Ordering Delivery
While dining out may be canceled, ordering in is not. Now is a great time to support local businesses by requesting deliveries or heading out for curbside pickup. In order to do this safely, there are many steps you can take. When ordering delivery, request that your courier leaves your order outside and have them let you know when it has arrived. Then, disinfect all packaging before transferring food to plates or bowls. Before enjoying your meal, be sure to wash your hands. Bon appétit!
